The Houston Hall of Fame began in 1999 with ten individuals being inducted that year. In 2002 it became an annual induction ceremony. To date there have been 41 inductions.

The Hall honors those who have achieved excellence in the arts, athletics, business, entertainment, law, medicine and public service. Each inductee was either born in Houston or called Houston home during the time of their greatest achievements.

The hall is located in the George R. Brown Convention Center outside the George Bush Grand Ballroom on the third floor.
